2007 Picnics
GRA/NCW PICNIC AT NIST
NIST Picnic Grove: On September 26 around 200 people enjoyed a free outdoor lunch provided by the GRA and the NIST Committee for Women (NCW).
With the grills overflowing and groups of people from all over NIST in attendance, the GRA and NCW were very humbled to see the NIST Director (Acting), James Turner, conversing with new faces as he patiently waited in line for his hotdog! It was the first time the GRA had ever joined forces with the NCW.
Thank you to everyone who helped to make the bbq picnic a great success.

Happy Hour IN THE PARK on August 17, 2007
The GRA Happy Hour in the park on August 17 was very well attended by singles, couples and families alike. With about 40 people attending and near perfect weather, it’s no wonder that the grills were overflowing with food!
Thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed a few drinks and a BBQ snack on one of the few remaining afternoons of summer!!

Directions
The park is located in Montgomery County. From Washington, D.C, Virginia and points south, take I-270 north toward Frederick, Maryland. Take exit 10, Clopper Road, and continue through six traffic lights. The park's entrance is marked and will be on the left. If you have no form of transport - there are many people attending who can give you a ride please contact the association to request transport.
Who?
All NIST Guest researchers, SURF students, NIST staff and your families are welcome to come along and join in the fun.
What to bring?
Its a pot-luck picnic, although the association will provide some food and refreshments as a basic start. It is an international pot-luck picnic and so you are encouraged to bring your favourite dish from your home countries. Grills are present on site and so food which requires grilling is also good. You could bring: Salads, rice, vegetables and other side dishes Meat, fish or vegetables for the grill, cooked dished from your home country your favourite desserts, cakes, pasteries
Drinks- We are allowed alcohol under the pavillion so please bring your favourite tipple if you want a beer / glass of wine to wash down your BBQd food. Other wise other soft drinks are welcome
Also feel free to bring a soccer ball, frisbee or other forms of entertainment for you, your friends and your family members.

Park facilities
The park, comprised of 7,000 acres, extends along 12 scenic miles of Seneca Creek, as it winds its way to the Potomac River. The Clopper Day-Use Area contains many scenic areas, including the 90-acre Clopper Lake, surrounded by forests and fields. Picnicking, boat rentals, trails and a tire playground are just some of its recreational opportunities. A restored 18th century cabin and a self-guided path interpret the history of the area.
The parks picnic features include; Picnic areas with tables, grills, and comfort stations are open daily until sunset. Playgrounds are located near the picnic areas. Picnic pavilions for group picnics are available for rental. The park also has golf, trails for hiking and biking and boating
