How to get there
- By plane
Approx 5 hours direct flight from DC or Baltimore. The main Los Angeles airport is Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) but you can also fly to Long Beach airport (LGB) with JetBlue Airlines.
When you want to drive trough L.A. and California it is a good idea to search and book a car before the trip. On the LAX airport is a station (the purple color station (purple sign) in front of the arrive-exit of the airport) with buses from many "rent a car" companies like 'Avis' or 'Advantage' which carrying you to their branch. I recommend to google for the cheapest company, but never forget to be aware; some companies don't include the taxes and additional fees in their end prizes.
- By car
If you are visiting California, Los Angeles is located 381 miles down San Francisco and 121 miles up from San Diego.
What to see
- Old Los Angeles
This part of the city is often forgotten. Although pretty tiny, there are very nice adobes and buildings to visit. Plus you're in the middle of the spanish population selling different artifacts remembering their origins. [1]
- Disney Hall
The architectural aspect of this concert hall is interesting. Performances, tours and dining are given in the hall.
- University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
One of the most famous Uni on the West Coast. A car is required to drive through the University.
- Downtown
Except the skyscrapers, not a lot to see in the heart of the city.
Around LA
- Beverly Hills
Rodeo Drive is THE famous street where you can shop with the stars. A famous hotel is also part of the visit : The Regent. It is the place where stayed Julia Roberts in the film Pretty Woman.
- Hollywood
Hollywood Boulevard is another famous street where you can compare your hand and footprints with the legendary stars like Harrison Ford, Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne at Mann’s Chinese Theatre. Take a stroll on the Walk of Fame where you’ll see the stars of your favorite actors and actresses, like Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Leonardo DeCaprio, Julia Roberts and many more...
- Santa Monica
- Venice Beach
- West Coast
The West Coast of USA is one of the most beautiful places in America with amazing views on the ocean and mountains. A good opportunity is to drive along the Highway 1 from L.A. to San Francisco. This Highway is very close to the ocean. The trip takes at least 9 hours, but it is worth!! (google maps can be helpful...)
