German driving license

Some Experience applying with a
German driving license
- Make sure you have the '3-hour drug and alcohol' certificate and the needed documents described earlier. (e.g. the account summary sent to you by your bank and your leasing contract).
- You don't need an appointment, just go to the MVA. Tell the guys at the information stand that you want to apply for a Maryland driver's license and you already have a valid German driver's license. No translation needed.
- You will have to provide some data at the counter and will be sent to make the Law and Order Test. There are 20 questions, 3 may be wrong, one question can be switched if you don't know it.
- If you have completed the test successfully, you will get some paper which enables you to take the driving test.
- Go to another counter and apply for the driving test. Usually you can make the test ad hoc. (You will need a car, so maybe you ask someone to lend you one for the test). You will get a form for the examiner. Luckily this form contains all the penalties and points, so study it carefully. It will give you a hint what you may and may not do. (e.g. passing the STOP line = 16 penatly points = failed)
- The driving test is very easy though if you made a German driving test before and takes about 15 mins.
The whole procedure will take about 3-4 hours, depending on how many people are at the MVA.
Enjoy !
